Julius Fucík was a Czech composer and conductor, well-known for his work with military brass bands for whom he composed many marches. His most famous piece is ‘Entrance of the Gladiators’, also known as ‘Thunder and Blazes’, composed in 1899. Although intended to evoke Roman history, the work is now associated with the circus, in particular with clowns.
